1st Sunday of Lent

“I have now brought you the first fruits of the products of the soil which you, O Lord, have given to me.” – Genesis 15:7

This simple line from the Old Testament presents us with two challenges.  First, do we bring God our first fruits – the best that we have to offer?  Second do we remember that everything we have has been given to us by God?  We brought nothing into this world and we can take nothing from it.  So why not share what we have while we are here?

45th Annual Chicken Dinner News
March 14, 2010

Advertising handbills are in the church vestibule.  Please help by taking one or more and place them in businesses or give to a friend to help advertise our dinner.

Ladies or men, please remember the four fruit pies we need from each family.  Preferably  cherry, apple, or peach.  Last year we served 3536 dinners.  That means about 589 pies.  THANK YOU for all your help in the past.

As a reminder to all those who have helped in the past and any new parishioners who can help, we have listed below the times and areas in which your help is needed:

Friday, March 12 –

5:00 p.m. Hall & table set up
6:00p.m. Cut up chicken at Riegel Dairy Farm

Saturday, March 13 – 7:00 a.m. Coleslaw & kitchen preparations
Sunday, March 14 –

10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Table serving & table clean up
6:00 p.m. General clean up

We ask those who have worked a specific job in the past to do the same job again.  If you are a first time worker please check in with someone at the serving counter and they will be happy to find a spot for you.  Please remember that appearance is a big part of our dinners.  White shirts, dark pants, black bow tie & white hat is the uniform of the day.  Hats & name tags can be picked up at the cashier desk.  If you need bow tie ask and someone will get you one.  Please remember the workers should park on the ball field behind school.  Leave the blacktop for the paying customers.  THANK YOU for all your help.

The Legion of Mary has been leading the rosary before mass.  The rosary will begin 20 minutes before mass starts.  We would like to invite anyone who is interested in participating to please do so.  "Mary guides the faithful to the Eucharist. (Pope John Paul II)."

We are still looking for more auxiliary members to commit to daily rosary and prayers for the work of the Legion.  This does not entail any meetings, but becomes the crucial back up for the success of our spiritual work of evangelizing that the Legion does.  If you are at all interested in the possibility of becoming an active member and attending the meetings, take a flyer from the Legion poster in the vestibule.  It explains it in more detail.  Thanks to all who have already committed to being a Legion auxiliary member.  The members are growing and we need you so much!

Legion of Mary will meet every 1st and 3rd Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at the rectory.  New members are always welcome!

St. Johns Goes Wireless! Thanks to YHTI and Radio Comm Paging, St. Johns now has a wireless Internet connection! So long satellite! Having a wireless Internet connection has greatly increased the speed and dependability of our Internet service. We are very excited about this change. It is a great addition to our Technology future. This service is also available for use at your home. If you do not have access to broadband cable (Charter Pipeline or DSL) this may work for you. All you need is a line of sight from the top of your house to the towers in either Krakow or Ming Estates area, or to the southwest near Hwy O and I44 and be within the service radius. And best of all, the service is local! You are keeping your neighbors working, and they are good at what they do!
